Fucking disgusted with the government — again

About to go to bed, but I’m fucking disgusted to see that the government is still burying controversial news.

The first edition of today (Friday)’s Indy is reporting that the AG‘s advice to the government in the run-up to the War consisted of nine paragraphs on a single side of A4.

And this in the same editions as everywhere else is reporting the more obvious story, with “Parliamentary ping-pong” going on with the badly-drafted, evil-and-wrong Prevention of Terrorism Bill, which is currently in the Commons, having been sent there (for the second time this evening alone) by the Lords’ rejecting any Bill that doesn’t at least contain a sunset clause. The Lords is now not sitting again until 5am, but that’s ok because, in Parliamentary terms, Thursday doesn’t end until midday on Friday (no, really). If one of the two Houses hasn’t conceded the point before then, however, the Bill will fall (please, God, let it fall!).

As I’ve written before, does the government really not understand that if we destroy our culture and liberties, abolishing the 790-year-old concept of habeas corpus, then the terrorists have already won? They may not be willing to sacrifice British lives in order to protect British existence, but I think that’s pathetically short-sighted; I’d sacrifice my friends’ and family’s (Heaven forfend!), if I had to. Our way of life, our liberties, are more important than a few lives — even a few hundred or a few thousand.

And, on top of all that, our judiciary — who are evidently better in touch with sanity, as well as the mood of the informed parts of our nation, than the government — have ruled that the ATCSA provisions (yes, I have it bookmarked) are illegal and that ten prisoners of HMP Belmarsh who were interned without trial in our own little Guantánamo.

Interesting times; the Chinese have the right idea about them. I definitely don’t like this country any more. I want this government out and I want them out now. And, frankly, I think I might even be prepared to vote Conservative to achieve it.

[Edit: I’ve added more thoughts in a comment; I’ve left last night’s post untouched.]
