Another political meme

Political Survey 2005.com

I come out as very internationalist and rather socialist / anti-war. Shocker.

Crime and punishment, internationalism

My position on this axis is −6.6; I am likely to be very internationalist and rehabilitationist.

Economics, etc

My position on this axis is −1.1; I am likely to be slightly socialist and anti-war.

(Slightly?!)

More rehabilitationist, internationalist About the same More punitive, isolationist
More free-market, pro-war 0.0% 0.7% 50.6%
About the same 0.0% 1.0% 41.1%
More socialist, anti-war 0.0% 0.3% 6.3%

More detailed analysis: crime and punishment, transnational issues

Apparently, on crime and punishment, Europe, and other transnational issues including immigration and international law, I am “very left-wing” (no shit).

A person on the extreme right of this axis is likely to agree with all of the following statements:

  • Prisons are too soft on criminals
  • The UK should withdraw from the European Union
  • Most immigrants are not beneficial to the UK
  • Some crimes are so serious that the only proper punishment is the death penalty
  • It’s more important to punish criminals than to rehabilitate them
  • The government should not give any more aid to poor countries

…and people on the left hand end of this axis (like moi) are likely to disagree with all of them. (D’ya think?)

Compared to the whole population, 0.0% are significantly to my left, 2.0% have views about the same as mine and 98.0% are significantly to my right.

More detailed analysis: the economy and Iraq

And on public and private involvement in the economy, international trade, redistributive taxation… and Iraq, I am “slightly left-of-centre”.

A person on the extreme right of this axis is likely to agree with all of the following statements:

  • Britain’s railways should remain in private ownership
  • Rich people already pay enough tax
  • I am comfortable with the way that genetic engineering is being used in the food industry
  • The UK was right to go to war in Iraq
  • Most people should take responsibility for saving enough for their retirement, rather than relying on the Government to pay a big enough pension to live on
  • This country should try to become more like the United States of America than like France or Germany

…and people on the left hand end of this axis (like me, but less so than I thought; guess I’m too neutral on too many of those) are likely to disagree with all of them.

Compared to the whole population, 6.6% are significantly to my left, 42.2% have views about the same as mine and 51.3% are significantly to my right (on this axis).

Summary

For both axes, based on the answers I gave, the site judges that, of the well-known parties, Green voters have views most like mine and, of the well-known ’papers, readers of The Guardian have views most like mine.

Bloody good work, Chris!
